AIDS AWARENESS WEEK:
Every year AIDS awareness week is organized between 30th Nov to 7th Dec through different activities like, in one year, a get together was organized of all the DIDIs, staff of all projects & PLHAs. In another year a symbolic red ribbon of 12x10 feet was carried by hundreds of SWs & DIDIs to create awareness in the society. It was carried from Mumbai central to Nimbhar road. In yet another year, an awareness drive was organized in RLA, which was attended by bollywood stars as a mark of recognition of our DIDIs work.
A PROTEST MARCH AGAINST STOPPAGE OF FREE CONDOM DISTRIBUTION BY MDACS: A huge rally of SWs & DIDIs was organized by SAI to express their discontent against government’s stand to stop free condom distribution.
RAKSHA BANDHAN: This festival is celebrated every year by SAI with all the SWs in the RLA. RAKHI is the symbol of oath that the brother will protect his sister against all evil which is relationship that SAI shares with our DIDIs
HALDI KUMKUM: A Haldi kumkum programme was organized for SWs as a cultural activity as well as to improve interpersonal relations among DIDIs from different areas.
REPUBLIC DAY: Republic day is celebrated by SAI with all SWs to create unity & make them feel that they are a part of the society.
STREET THEATRE & SLIDE SHOWS are performed in Mumbai & many distant and remote rural villages for health education and AIDS awareness.
FREE TAILORING CLASSES: SWs and DIDIs are taught how to use sewing machines to provide them an alternative source of income and make them self reliant on leaving prostitution.
FREE HEALTH CAMPS FOR POLICE are organized to create a good will and obtain
their support.
FREE STI CAMPS are conducted for both SWs as well as general population.
FREE HEALTH CAMPS for the poor people in rural areas are also conducted.
OUTINGS & PICNICS: picnics are organized for SWs and DIDIs to give them an opportunity to enjoy.
WHO IS DIDI NO 1 (Kaun Banegi DIDI no 1): It was a competition organized for the DIDIs to encourage them to gain & improve knowledge.
SPORTS / DANCE / SONG COMPETITION AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES are arranged for the children of SWs.
