While going house to house our ORWs come in direct contact with the general public. Thus health education and awareness is also spread among the general public. Our ORWs while searching for pregnant women, when they come across some other patients, they extend their full support by guiding & directing them to government hospitals where they assist they to get proper treatment. |
The most significant source of HIV infection in children and infants is transmission of HIV from mother to children during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. A Prevention of Parent To Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS programme can significantly reduce the number of infected infants and promote better health for their mothers and families. Our outreach workers go door to door and give health education about HIV/AIDS and parent to child transmission of HIV. A pregnant female is referred to the nearest Muncipal or government hospital with a referral letter accompanied by our outreach worker. On reaching there she meets our counselor in the hospital who counsels her and guides her in the hospital for her registration and all tests including test for HIV. Her husband’s HIV testing is also done. If the mother is HIV positive then our outreach worker takes the entire responsibility of the outcome of pregnancy. Her each visit to the hospital is accompanied by our Outreach worker. They see to it that she and her baby gets Nevirapine at the appropriate time. The mother and child both are monitored until the child is 18 months old.
