‘ Till I am young, I am saleable ……..What next? is a common question eating them every minute of their life. ‘All my money went in to the pockets of Moneylenders & gharwalis. I couldn’t save a penny. What will I do when I get old? What will I eat? Where will I stay? Oh no! I can’t handle this tension any more. I will do one thing. I will go & drink! What do SWs do when they get old? They do nothing. Most of them live on the roadside. They beg on the roads in daytime trying to kill their hunger. Very rarely, once in a month they get lunch as well as dinner. When they fall ill there is no one for them to take them to hospital. They remain in that diseased state for days together on the footpath. If fortunate enough, they get well, but in majority of cases they die on the footpath. Rarely one or two of them are able to become gharwali (i.e. Brothel Owners) after becoming gharwali they forget how miserable their lives and continue to propagate the flesh trade. This is the usual story in almost all red light areas.
Hence when the DIDIs were asked to think about a solution on it, they suggested to make a place where ill and destitute SWs who have been thrown out of their brothrels can have a roof on their head, can have atleast two square meals a day and get medication if they are ill. Hence we came up with the novel idea of APNALAY which will provide all the above. |
